The Freedom Riders
The Freedom Riders were both black and white civil rights protesters who rode the city busses to challenge the governments ruling of segregation on busses. Even though the supreme court said that the segregation on busses was unconstitutional, many states, including Alabama ignored the rulings. Often busses which held the civil rights protesters were met by riots. The busses tires were often times slashed and even shot at. One time, a bus had been caught up in flames by a firebomb thrown into one of the windows by a man in an angry white mob.
