Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was a Civil Rights activist who became famous when she was told to give up her seat on a city bus to a white passenger but refused. This sparked national attention when Rosa Parks was then arrested for not moving to the back of the bus because she was standing up for the rights of African Americans.
Effects
This sparked an idea in Jo Ann Robinson's, leader of the Women's Political Council, to get African Americans united and to boycott the city busses on the day Rosa Parks was scheduled to appear in court after getting arrested. The boycott did everything that it was intended to do, which was to gain national attention. This led to the successful outcome of the boycott. After Dr. King had given African Americans himself as a leader in passive resistance, the blacks continued the bus boycott for over a year which eventually led to the Supreme Court's ruling of bus segregation as unconstitutional.
